The program is a cooperative effort between USATF’s national Women’s and Men’s Long Distance Running Committees, championship road races, and USATF local associations. Local associations select athletes and pay a portion of travel costs; championship events may provide additional travel funding and cover lodging, ground transportation, entry, and meals.

The national Long Distance Running Committees determine program guidelines. Athletes must be 39 years old or younger, be U.S. citizens, and have personal records within the applicable performance range.
